Frequently Asked Questions

Civitas

Civitas comes from the Latin meaning: community of citizens. We believe Civitas Classical Academy will be a community of citizens of Heaven committed to pursuing wisdom and seeking after what is good, true, and beautiful. (Philippians 3:20)

Beginning Fall 2024 Civitas Classical Academy will offer grades K-6. Our plan is to grow to a K-12 school as our older students progress.

Yes. We believe uniforms are an important part of the Classical Christian School culture. Uniforms promote a spirit of unity amongst the student body and help develop a culture of respect and discipline.

We are a broadly reformed evangelical school. We hold to the Apostles Creed, Nicene Creed, and the 1st two chapters of the Westminster Confession. Click here to view our complete statement of faith.

Civitas Classical Academy is a full time brick and mortar school operating 5 full days per week.

Tuition

Tuition for the 2024/2025 school year will be $7,000 per student.

We do not offer tuition assistance at this time. We seek to grow a strong base of financial support through generous donors from our community who share our mission. As that base of support grows we plan to provide assistance to those in need as we are able. We believe a Classical Christian education is for everyone and economic burdens ought not be a barrier.

We are committed to providing an excellent education to our students and a viable career path for our staff. We believe to achieve these goals it will require a worthwhile sacrifice from our families and financial partners in our community. While it is a financial strain to any budget to pay tuition for their children, it is one of the greatest investments one could make that will pay eternal dividends.

“Everyone wants a school with small class sizes, high quality teachers, and low tuition and that school doesn’t exist.”

Classical Christian Education

Classical Christian education is a time-tested educational system which establishes a biblical worldview, incorporates methods based on natural phases of student development, cultivates Christian virtue, trains students (mind, body, and soul) through the 7 liberal arts, and interacts with the historical Great Books.

The seven liberal arts are the tools of learning used throughout centuries in education to equip students with the ability to learn. This made education applicable to all people because they would be better suited to learn anything following a liberal arts education. The 7 liberal arts are split into two categories: the Trivium and the Quadrivium. The Trivium consists of the language arts: Grammar, Logic, and Rhetoric. The Quadrivium consists of the mathematical arts: Arithmetic, Geometry, Astronomy, and Music.

The Trivium is made up of the three liberal arts of Grammar, Logic, and Rhetoric. They are the tools of learning that are required to learn any subject. In Classical Christian Education each art is mapped on to stages of a child’s development. Grammar is the first stage (~K-5) when students naturally love learning facts, memorizing, singing, etc. They have an amazing capacity to store information in this stage. Logic (~6-8) is the second stage where students have a strong desire to understand how things fit together and to argue about what is right. By leaning in to this desire and guiding and directing towards what is good, true, and beautiful it develops the student to grow in wisdom and virtue. Rhetoric (~9-12) is the final stage of the trivium. It is the time where students have a strong desire to express themselves and thus it is sensible to cut with the grain and train students to write and speak well. Students are challenged with projects that require them to develop arguments and defend them persuasively.

Great books and art have stood the test of time and, over time, communicate truth, goodness, and beauty in a substantial way. Most include ideas that have influenced and shaped history and the development of Western civilization, and have added meaningfully to the Great Conversation. In this way, they are important pieces of cultural heritage.
